Ken Ross and I wrote this song for a friend of ours who had a devastating car accident many years ago which resulted in a severe brain injury and the loss of her life as she knew it.
Inspired by Marilyn MacMillan's life story and her drive to re-invent her life, we wanted to help raise awareness and funds for people who have suffered or are still suffering a brain injury in London and surrounding areas.
We wrote this song on the train in January 2015 as we toured on VIA RAIL from Ontario to B.C.
We recorded this demo in our hotel room at the Astoria Hotel in Jasper, AB.
lyrics
Never Say Never
Sarah Smith / Ken Ross
2015
I took a ride down memory lane
It's been a long time since I was on that train
All along a cold, wintery road
Trees were white, weighed down by ice
I couldn't keep control, a one track mind
Going off the rails, one wheel at a time
Reading a map of my life
I'd been handed the wrong guide
Never say never - Get back those days
Never say never - I’ve had to change
Never say never - I’ll find a new way
Never say never - It starts today
Won't limit myself, be the engine of hope
Been down the mountain to hell, now I'm rising back home
And now I have control, back in my mind
Riding on the rails, the wheels are aligned
Writing the map of my life
I've created a new guide
Never say never - Get back those days
Never say never - I’ve had to change
Never say never - I’ll find a new way
Never say never - It starts today
I've found the new me
I like the new me
I love the new me
I live the new me
Never say never - Get back those days
Never say never - I’ve had to change
Never say never - I’ll find a new way
Never say never - It starts today
I'll start today
I am today
the new me
